CPP, CNRP Reach an Agreement on the Two Points

The representative of Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and Cambodian National Rescue Party (CNRP) discussed the establishment of an independent committee to investigate the irregularities before the election. The meeting between the two parties was held on 9 August 2013 with the presences of CNRP representatives including Mr. Son Chhay, Mr. Koy Bunroeun and Mr. Yem Punharith and CPP representative including Mr. Cheam Yeap, Mr. Prum Sokha, and Mr. Ouk Kim Han. The two parties finally decided to examine the possibility of choosing non-government organizations (NGO) to work with a technical group, representatives of the United Nations, national and international organizations will also be present to observe the process. In the meeting, the two agreements have been reached. 1. The meeting between the two parties still be proceed and lead by the National Election Committee (NEC). 2. CNRP had been pushing for a joint investigation brokered by the UN since the election, a move the NEC insisted it could not agree to, because it would be illegal to have foreign involvement, said Mr. Cheam Yeap, representative of CPP.   CNRP Refuses Again Not to Form a Joint Committee with the NEC

Cambodian National Rescue Party (CNRP) refused to send its representative in order to form a joint committee with Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and the National Election Committee (NEC), which hard to solve the remaining issues from the election. Until 10 August, CNRP hasn’t responded to the request of NEC for establishing the special committee so as to check the irregularities during the election, while CPP already agreed with this request, said Mr. Tep Nytha, Secretary General of the NEC. “It doesn’t mean we are late to send, but we don’t want to do so”, said Mr. Yim Sovan, spokesman for CNRP.
