The
Government Must Take a Measure to Prevent Demonstration Not to Let It Happens
As the Situation of Destroying Thai Embassy in 2003
In the circumstance after the
election, the government must take a measure to prevent demonstration which is
likely to happen by the opposition party. Otherwise, it will be happened
seriously as the situation of destroying Thai Embassy since 2003, said Mr.
Khieu Kanharith, Cambodian Minister of Information, during a press conference
yesterday. After the election, the government tries its effort to find any
measures so as to prevent the protest which against the election result. If the
government doesn’t take any measure, the protest will be happened as the
burning and destroying Thai Embassy in 2003. “The election affairs must be
solved by the law. If the demonstrations provoke violence, harm security, or
cause the destruction of public or private property, the leaders of the
demonstration and those who breached the law will be held responsible before
the law for any consequences. Therefore, the government has its duties to
prevent or take a measure in advance”, he added. (Rasmei Kampuchea, 13 August

Result
Announcement on 12 August: CPP Wins the Election but CNRP Rejects
The announcement of the
election’s temporary result by the National Election Committee (NEC) yesterday
showed that Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) had won 3.235.969 votes, while
Cambodian National Rescue Party (CNRP) had won 2.946.176 votes. According to
the temporary result, CPP won the election in leading the country on the 5th
mandate. Yet, CNRP rejected the election results which had been announced by
the NEC. “The leader of CNRP expressed deep regret and rejected the election
temporary results which had been announced by the NEC yesterday. The NEC must
responsible for any rebellion or protest which caused political instability by the
people…As a representative of CNRP, we would like to urge more for the meeting
between the two parties so as to establish an independent technology team with
the observation from the United Nations”, said Mr. Kem Sokha, Vice President of
