CPP Wins 68 Seats versus 55 Seats

The National Election Committee (NEC) announced the election results on 28 July 2013, yet it hasn’t calculated the seat. Anyhow, the primary election results, which has advertised is not different from the upcoming official result. According to the source from Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), the CPP won 68 seats in the whole country, and the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) won 55 seats among the 123-seat National Assembly. According to the calculation from the election observation organizations, the CPP won 67 seats, and the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) won 56 seats. (Rasmei Kampuchea, 30 July 2013)


International Observers Appreciates the Elections as Free, Fair and Transparent

The international observers have appreciated the election in Cambodia as free, fair and transparent. The 36 international observers from representative delegation of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) and the Centrist Asia Pacific Democrats International (CAPDI) were invited to observe the elections in Cambodia. The delegations visited the polling stations and issued a statement, which considered the elections in Cambodia were free, fair and transparent. (Rasmei Kampuchea, 30 July 2013)   



The Case of Burning Military Vehicles in Front of Stung Meanchey Pagoda Investigated

The Officers of the Royal Gendarmerie are seeking and investigating the arrest of people who burned and destroyed the two military vehicles on 28 July 2013.  The cruel violence of the citizens against the Officers of the Royal Gendarmerie was happened after the Major General Mr. Ya Kim Ie, Commander of Gendarmerie of Phnom Penh, led the force in order to liberate Mrs. Yin Kim Sieng, the Chairman of the National Election Committee at Stung Meanchey district, who had not been allowed to leave the election room by some citizens and monks. Parliament Cannot Restore Parliamentary Immunity
for Mr. Sam Rainsy

The permanent committee of the National Assembly yesterday held a meeting so as to verify Mr. Sam Rainsy’s request for restore his parliamentary immunity. After the whole morning meeting, the permanent committee of the National Assembly has unanimously decided to reject Mr. Sam Rainsy’s request. “The permanent committee of the National Assembly has unanimously decided not to restore your immunity since you have become the President of the Cambodia National Rescue Party, which is a party that has no seat in the fourth legislature of the National Assembly”, Samdech Heng Samrin, President of the National Assembly, wrote in a letter to Mr. Sam Rainsy on 25 July 2013.  Samdech Techo Provides a Budget of 450,000 USD for Pine Great Factory Workers through the Ministry of Social Affairs

Premier Hun Sen has decided to provide a budget with the amount of 450,000 USD to the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veteran and Youth Rehabilitation so as to provide the wages and other benefits to 732 workers who working for Pine Great Factory. The factory has been collapsed due to the factory owner had fled the country without providing the wages and other benefits to employees since April 2013, said Mr. Vong Vanna, Advisor to the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veteran and Youth Rehabilitation. “We are very pleased to see Samdech Techo solve a problem for us, and we will vote for Cambodian People’s Party as they always help the workers”, said Mrs. Ker Sokhom, representative of the workers. President of the National Assembly Lets the Permanent Committee to Decide Mr. Sam Rainsy’s Request for Restore His Parliamentary Immunity

Samdech Heng Samrin, President of the National Assembly, has responded to Mr Sam Rainsy’s request for restore his parliamentary immunity by letting the Permanent Committee of Parliament to decide, said the member of the Permanent Committee of Parliament. “Mr. Sam Rainsy’s request for restore his parliamentary immunity from President of the National Assembly was right according to constitution, yet it was wrong as he was not the member of Sam Rainsy Party anymore, he is the party member and the Chairman of Cambodia National Rescue Party. Therefore, Mr. Sam Rainsy as well as other members cannot stand as a lawmaker since he already left his seat as a lawmaker of Sam Rainsy Party. As a result, Samdech Heng Samrin has no rights to decide as he will let the member of the Permanent Committee of Parliament make a decision”, said H.E. NEC: There 40.141 National Observers and 85 International Observers

There are a total of 40.141 national observers (from 38 organizations) and international observers (from 16 organizations and countries) who registered for observing during the upcoming election, said Mr. Tep Nytha, Secretary General of National Election Committee (NEC). Besides, up to 23 July 2013, the NEC received 297 lawsuits from commune and district level in the case of party signs and posters destroyed by anonymous, unfairly interrupted the party procession and other problems, he added. Phnom Penh Governor to Make an Effort to Solve Boeung Kak Land Dispute in the Near Future

Phnom Penh Governor H.E. Pa Socheatvong and other expert officers visited Boeung Kak yesterday. “Please, all citizens who living in this area keep calm since a solution will be found only after the election. After the election, the authority will find solution for the citizens not to keep them living in a difficult situation anymore. My main aim of visiting Boeung Kak is to find solution and to continue verifying the infrastructure development project such as sewer systems and roads which Phnom Penh Municipality continue implementing on the impact of the citizens who living in Boeung Kak lake area”, said Phnom Penh Governor. The National Election Committee Announces to Close the Voter List Website before Election Day

The National Election Committee (NEC) announced to close the voter list via website www.voterlist.org.kh from 27 July onwards until the new registration so as to avoid the exploitation of any political parties via this website, according to NEC’s press release. Although the website was closed, the voters can find their names on the voters list at the communes until the Election Day. Besides, the voters can also find their names through voter information cards or phone numbers 011/016/081/086/099 98 77 66. (Kampuchea Tmey, 24 July 2013)
