Authorities Disperse
the Protesters In Front of the Ministry of Information
The
competent authorities had dispersed the protesters led by Mr. Mam Sonando,
President of Beehive Radio, in front of the Ministry of Information while they
were calling for increased radio bandwidth as well as TV license on 26 January
2014. Hundreds of military polices held the batons which led by Major General
Rath Srieng, Gendarmerie Commander, broke up a rally and fired smoke canisters
to protesters, which caused around 10 protesters were left injured and some had
fallen down in a faint due to the smoke canisters. Mr. Long Dimanche, spokesman
for Phnom Penh City Hall, said the military forces just implemented the law
through a decision of Phnom Penh City Hall that did not allow Mr. Sonando to
make a protest and march to the Ministry of Information as it would cause
turmoil to society, yet he still violated the permission of City Hall. (Rasmei
